Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) member organizations have once again demonstrated their unparalleled impact on Canada’s health research ecosystem, as reflected in the latest Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals and Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities ranking compiled by Research Infosource Inc.

Ten TAHSN hospitals earned a place on the list, collectively representing a quarter of the Top 40 organizations and accounting for more than 40% of the total research investment represented by the list, with combined research spend exceeding $1.5 billion. A TAHSN hospital also ranked first in every major category, including:

  • Total research spending
  • Research intensity as measured by funding per researcher
  • Research intensity as measured by funding as a proportion of total hospital spending

In addition to hospital leadership, TAHSN includes the #1 research university in Canada, ranked first in both sponsored research income and in research intensity measured by funding per faculty.

This significant representation is a testament to TAHSN’s collective leadership and impact in health research, powered by the contributions of individual research institutes and thousands of dedicated researchers across the network. Their work continues to advance medical innovation, improve patient care, and shape the future of health in Canada and beyond.
