For the eleventh year in a row, all nine Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) hospitals that are fully affiliated with the University of Toronto were named among Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals.
These nine hospitals have a combined research expenditure of $1.2 billion, and represent 39.1 per cent of the expenditure of the 40 research hospitals in the list. These hospitals, together with the University of Toronto and fellow TAHSN hospitals, comprise Canada's leading health research hub.
TAHSN hospitals ranked first in each major category of measure - the University Health Network topped this year’s list overall in terms of research spend, the Hospital for Sick Children ranked first in research intensity as a percent of organizational spend, and Baycrest ranked first in research intensity based on amount spent per researcher.
Having significant representation on this list, which is compiled annually by Research Infosource Inc., is a testament to TAHSN’s collective leadership and impact in health research, and the incredible contributions of individual research institutes and researchers across the network.
